With the monsoon rains disrupting traffic flow in Hyderabad’s IT corridor, Cyberabad Traffic Police have urged IT and ITeS companies to consider implementing staggered office hours or a Work From Home (WFH) option during days of heavy rainfall.
The advisory follows several days of traffic congestion caused by heavy rains, particularly in areas like Madhapur, which house major tech firms and see lakhs of employees commuting daily.
Speaking to the media, Cyberabad Additional DCP (Traffic), G Hanumantha Rao, said the recommendation was conveyed via the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC)—a body that collaborates with police to ensure employee safety in the region.
“With around 12 lakh employees working in the IT corridor, managing traffic becomes challenging, especially when it rains heavily and everyone logs out at the same time,” Rao said. He emphasized that advance weather alerts are regularly posted on the official @CYBTRAFFIC Twitter handle, allowing companies to plan accordingly.
On Tuesday, the police issued a rain advisory, urging firms to opt for WFH where possible. The official alert stated: “Heavy rains are expected in the Cyberabad area. To ensure employee safety, maintain productivity, and reduce traffic congestion, companies are advised to consider WFH.”
Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), also tweeted: “We appreciate the cooperation of all firms in helping us maintain emergency access and smooth traffic flow during adverse weather.”
The weather forecast for the day indicates moderate to heavy rainfall with possible thunderstorms in the evening and night. Authorities have asked commuters to plan travel accordingly.
